Clim Boots Clay was born May 3, 1914 in Purdon, Texas to Eli and Carry Jones Clay. He peacefully departed this life on September 2, 2014, in Hobbs, New Mexico at the age of 100.
Clim accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age. He united with Lane Chapel CME church when he moved to Hobbs in 1941. He served faithfully in several capacities including Lay President, Chairman of the Steward Board and on the finance committee.
Clim was a coowner of Clay Brothers Construction with his brother Thomas Clay. He was a very successful businessman. Clims work can be seen all over New Mexico and West Texas. His company was responsible for finishing many of the structures in Hobbs including Watson Memorial Stadium, Lane Chapel CME church, Carlsbad Caverns and the four original buildings of the New Mexico Junior College and many other buildings in downtown Hobbs.
Clim leaves to cherish his memory. His loving wife, Katherine of the home son, Donald Clay Mildred of Spring, Texas daughters, Juanita Rockmore of Dallas, Texas Clemmie JohnsonRaymond and
Debra Gershwin of Hobbs daughterinlaw, Patricia Clay of San Angelo, Texas Sisterinlaws, Hattie Mae Clay of Hobbs and Opal McIntyre of Dallas, Texas stepsons, James Jones of Seattle, Washington and Robert Jones of Hobbs Stepdaughters, Jackie Lewis and Carolyn Jones of Hobbs 26 grandchildren 46 greatgrandchildren and numerous nephews, nieces and other relatives.
Clim was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Lorene Burns Clay, four sons, Hollis J. Clay, Billie D. Clay, Clarence E. Clay and Howard Leon Clay, soninlaw R. D. Rockmore Daughterinlaw, Billie R. Clay and all of his sisters and brothers.
Funeral services for Clim will be held Saturday, September 6, 2014 at 2:00 pm at Lane Chapel CME Church. Visitation will be Friday, September 5, 8am till 7pm at Chapel of Hope Funeral Home.
