Claudine Belle Davis, was a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother. She passed away peacefully on February 11, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones in Lovington, New Mexico. Born on December 30, 1929, in Wink, Texas, Claudine was a Christian woman who was woven with devotion to her faith and her passions.
Raised in Hobbs, New Mexico, Claudine graduated from Hobbs High School in 1949. She enjoyed cheerleading and was a proud Hobbs Eagle. After high school, she enjoyed working in the retail sector. Her entrepreneurial spirit led her to own a shoe store for several years, reflecting her keen eye for fashion and her love for helping others find the perfect fit. Claudine’s faith in God was the cornerstone of her life; she was a devoted member of the First Christian Church where she taught Sunday school, directed children's evening church, and actively participated in the church's lady circle #3. Her creativity shone through as she wrote and directed church plays, bringing inspiration to her fellow church members.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Cleatis B. Davis, her son Rocky Wood, her granddaughter Tara Wood, and her step-siblings Lahoma and Bunah Green. Claudine is survived by her three children: Davigene Meyers and husband Chuck, Cubbie Clementi, Rena Byerly and husband Kenny, and her brother John Green and wife Joan. She leaves behind a legacy as she is also survived by nine grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
Claudine was an enthusiastic Dallas Cowboys fan, often traveling to attend their games. Her love for the arts extended to drama and creative writing, where she found joy in storytelling, sharing vivid accounts of her life experiences. She enjoyed swimming and volunteered to teach swimming lessons to kids at the local pool. She also enjoyed working out and going to Zumba classes.
An ardent lover of music, Claudine was a mega fan of Elvis Presley, enjoying his songs on repeat, with "Hound Dog" being her favorite. This adoration for Elvis was mirrored in her affection for basset hounds, having had several throughout her life including George, Elvis, and Beau, who were all adored companions. Her home was a treasure trove of Elvis memorabilia and basset hound collectibles, a testament to her passions.
Claudine loved to tell stories, especially tales from her earlier days. She took pride in her fashion, favoring flashy blouses, animal print pants and high heels. Although she was beautiful, she had a peculiar aversion to having her photo taken, preferring to create memories through her words rather than images.
As we remember Claudine, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to the excellent caretakers who provided care and companionship during her later years, ensuring she felt loved and cherished until the end.
