Clarise "Berde" Farris, long-time resident of Hobbs, NM passed away on Monday, the 5th of January, 2015 surrounded by loved ones in her home.
Berde was born in 1932 in Merced, CA.; the third oldest out of six children. Her parents divorced while she was young, but her mother, Melvina Deel, soon remarried to John Satterfield. Despite the hardships of growing up in a low-income household, Berde was able to triumph and teach herself to play guitar, piano, and bass. In addition, she was a brilliant composer and poet, having some of her songs put onto albums and her poems published.
She also had a great devotion to the Lord and loved to minister to family and friends. After a lifetime of sharing her knowledge of Christ and the Spirit of the Lord, she went on to become a licensed minister.
With all of her talents, she became a successful musician, traveling all over the U.S. playing music with her husband, Daniel Farris for several years before settling in Hobbs, NM. It was here that she and Daniel joined the country singing group, The Country Gentlemen, and played all over Lea County, including the Lovington VFW and Hobbs Senior Center for many more years. Berde and Dan also played on several different occasions in a variety of churches around the community of Hobbs.
Berde is survived by her husband of 58 years, Daniel Farris, as well as her five daughters: Louise McDonald and Myra Seavy of Lebanon, Oregon; Sandra Farris of Highland, California; Judy Rosales of Columbia, Missouri; and Tina Molinaro of Hobbs. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
