Funeral services for Charles Doc Smith, 88, of Hobbs, will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 31, 2012, at Christian Center officiated by Pastors Ty Bean and Jotty Kinney. Visitation will be Tuesday, October 30 12 7 p.m. at Chapel of Hope. Doc died October 28, 2012, in Hobbs. He was born October 9, 1924, in Miles, TX, to Rosa and Herman Smith. He married LaVerne Perry February 11, 1949.
Doc moved to Hobbs in 1952 and worked at Amerada Hess for 27 years. He then moved to Springhill, LA, for 8 years where he worked for Crystal Oil Co. After retiring, he moved back to Hobbs and worked at the Bus Barn for many years driving a bus for the handicapped. For the last two years, he and his wife lived with their daughter Jan and her husband Tim. Doc attended both Christian Center and Cowboy Junction Church.
Surviving Doc is his wife, LaVerne Smith, of Hobbs sons, Roy Hedges, and wife Shiele of Marble Falls, TX, and Terry Smith of San Angelo, TX daughter Jan Cox, and husband Tim, of Hobbs 6 grandchildren and 12 greatgrandchildren.
Preceding Doc in death were his parents 3 brothers, Emmitt Edward Smith, Perry Hubert Smith and W. A. Smith and two sisters, Lela Dean Boff and Myrtle Louene Sissel.
