Charles died August 14, 2011, at his home in Hobbs. He was born November 2, 1932, to George and Alabama Mills, in Fouke, Arkansas. He married Marilyn Newman August 2, 1952, in Texarkana, AR. In 1955 he moved to Hobbs to work on drilling rigs. He then worked for Billy Walker and Star Tool Company. Charles loved to squirrel hunt and fish for bass with his grandchildren. He attended First Missionary Baptist in Hobbs for 30 years and drove the youth church bus. In later years he attended Taylor Memorial Baptist Church. He was an advent fan for Razorback football and passed this onto his children and grandchildren. In spite of not having formal education, Charles owned and operated several country stores.

In 1954 Charles and Marilyn stopped and visited in Hobbs and there was a massive dust storm. Consequently, Charles said he would never live in Hobbs. One year later he returned to Hobbs and lived here for 60 years. He was very proud that his sons and grandchildren graduated from Hobbs High School. Towards the end of his life, he was cared for by Lori Disney and Star Hospice.

Charles is survived by his wife, Marilyn Mills of Hobbs son, Allen Mills, and wife Shana, of Hobbs grandsons, Christopher R. Mills, esq., Chad Mills, both of Hobbs granddaughter, Kamie Mills of Hobbs greatgrandsons, Gavin Baeza of Hobbs and Thomas Christopher Aurelio, of Oceanside, CA and nephew and niece, Vickie and Jacob Quato of Dallas, TX.

He was preceded in death by his son, Charles Ray Mills his parents, George and Alabama Mills a brother, A. L. Mills six sisters, Ruby Mills, Dale Archer, Opal Brown, Lill Stantifer, Billie Jean Tye and Eva Davis.
