Carolyn Janet Jan Stroup was born July 18, 1942, in Durant, Oklahoma, to John R. and Joyce Gwendolyn Coady. Jan departed to be with her Lord on January 16, 2010. She graduated from Lovington High School in 1960, attended Eastern New Mexico University and received her Bachelor of Science degree from College of the Southwest. Jan was a beautiful and talented young woman who held the titles of Miss Lovington, first runner up for Miss New Mexico and Wheatheart of the Nation.
She taught kindergarten through sixth grade levels in Texas and New Mexico for 39 12 years, retiring from the Hobbs Municipal Schools in 2003.
She is fondly remembered by many former students whose lives she touched in countless ways. Since 2004 she has been employed as office manager of Coady Chiropractic Center.
Jan was a very loving and giving woman who was full of faith in Christ her Lord. She served as SecretaryTreasurer of her church, Tabernacle of Glory.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her grandson Shaun Brennan Tinley and daughterinlaw Gayla Tinley.
She is survived by her sons, Coady Tinley of Hobbs, and Layne Stroup and wife Julie of Seminole, Texas grandsons Chastyn Stroup of Lovington and Cameron Stroup of Seminole, Texas sister Dr. Marilyn Coady and husband Bill Sims of Hobbs and nephew John Dee Coady Sims.
Her precious smile, laughter and special sense of humor will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be held Friday, January 22, at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel of Hope Funeral Home in Hobbs. Public viewing will be from 8 a.m. 7 p.m. on Thursday and from 8 a.m. 10:00 a.m. on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Tabernacle of Glory, 4530 N. Lovington Highway, Hobbs, New Mexico 88240.
Services are under the direction of Chapel of Hope Funeral Home.
