Carol (Watson) Mayfield
Mrs. Bettina Carol Mayfield beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend passed March 5th at the age of 90 surrounded by her family and friends.
Carol was born in Joplin, Missouri on July 2nd, 1933, to Bill and Mae (Smell) Watson. Her family moved from Missouri to Kermit, Texas shortly after Carol was born. She attended school in Kermit and helped raise her 4 sweet sisters and 2 crazy brothers. There she met her soulmate, Monte H. Mayfield in 1948 when he returned home from the war. They were married soon after and had two daughters, Connie and Kate. The Mayfields moved to Hobbs, New Mexico in 1952 where they resided for the next 55 years.
Carol worked much of her career at Hobbs Animal Hospital alongside her sister in Hobbs, New Mexico chasing puppies for Veterinarians Dr. Jack Kirk and Dr. Donald Newman for close to 25 years. She loved all animals and her and Monte always had a number of dogs (1 or 2) and cats (30), never turning away strays.
Carol and Monte loved exploring the country during their lives and in retirement. They travelled frequently to Florida and Wyoming visiting their daughters and families. Carol loved all things outdoors in particular fishing. She loved playing games; pinochle, bridge, spades, Uno, dominoes, Bingo, and could frequently be found beating her grandchildren at Boggle.
She leaves a family who loves her deeply including her daughter Kate Ballew wife of Bob Ballew Casper, WY, her son-in-law Ronnie Sebring of Bonita Springs, Florida, 3 beloved grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Candice Sebring-Kelber (Harvey) and her daughter Cameron of Bonita Springs, Florida. Carrie Ballew-Reese (Jobe) and their daughter Piper and Drew Ballew (Mandy) and their three children Jack, Mira, and Bryn of Wyoming. She is preceded in death by her parents, her 2 brothers and 4 sisters, her daughter Connie Sebring, and one grandchild Alicia Ballew. She will be sadly missed but fondly thought of and remembered forever.
There will be a graveside service in Hobbs, New Mexico on Wednesday, March 13 at 10:00 am, MDT, at Prairie Haven Memorial Park 1900 E Stanolind Rd Hobbs, New Mexico. There will be a celebration following. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to the Alzheimer's Association in memory of her daughter Connie Sebring.
