Byron Hughes

Memorial services for Byron Barney Hughes, 60 of Hobbs, will be held at Chapel of Hope Funeral Home Friday, 1:30 p.m. July 20, 2012, with Reverend G. A. Magee officiating. Byron passed away at his home in Hobbs after a lengthy illness. He was born May 8, 1952, in Knox City, TX. He was of the Baptist faith.

Byron attended most of his school years in Eunice, NM, graduating in 1970. He was very involved in school activities. He enjoyed and excelled in baseball and basketball. He attended ENMU and the University of New Mexico and spent his summers working on ranches in Montana. Byron farmed and ranched in the Vera, TX, area for several years. He was employed by Hobbs Rental Tool for many years on his return to New Mexico.

Byron retired due to illness and spent considerable time visiting the many recreational areas of New Mexico and Arizona. He was a volunteer at Sitting Bull Falls State Park in the Carlsbad area his last years. There he enjoyed hiking, caving, photography, the fellowship of the staff of the park, forest service and the many park visitors.

He is survived by his father, Maurice Hughes of the home a sister Challa Goedeke, and husband John, of Lubbock, TX several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Preceding Byron in death are his mother, Evelyn grandparents Pearl and Byron Hughes of Eunice, Lytle Thompson and Ed Lehr of Kansas City MO.

The family requests, in lieu of flowers, that memorial contributions be made to the charity of ones choice or Vista Care Hospice, 1515 Calle Sur St., Suite 129, Hobbs, NM 88240.
