Billy C. Morrill passed away at the age of 64 on Saturday, April 22, 2017. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 am on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at Taylor Street Church of Christ. In Hobbs, New Mexico. Internment will follow at Tridell Cemetery in Tridell, Utah.
Bill was born in Roosevelt, Utah in 1952. He moved to Hobbs in 1962 and graduated from Hobbs High School in 1971. He went to work for the potash mines before becoming a member of Hobbs Police Department. He continued to excel over the years and worked his way up through the ranks, retiring as Chief of Police in 1996. During his tenure with the police department, he also graduated from the National FBI Academy at Quantico, Virginia.
He served on numerous boards for the City of Hobbs, including being the Chairman of Leaders, until the time of his death. He also was President of the Hobbs Rotary Club, at which time they had one of largest memberships, mainly because people wanted to attend the meetings to hear what he would say next.
After retirement from the police department, he went on to work for New Mexico Junior College where he was involved in many areas to assist the college and the students.
He was the greatest father and husband anyone could ever ask for, and a wonderful example for his children in how to live their lives with integrity and dignity.
He is survived by his parents, Clint and Maxine Morrill of Hobbs, NM, and his wife of 37 years, Joni Morrill.
Daughter Kathy Rath, and husband Justin, with grandchildren Spencer and Paige, of Keller, TX.
Daughter Amy Maitlen, of Hobbs, NM, grandson Josh Maitlen, wife Haleigh, with his great grandchildren Wayke and Willow, grandson Logan Maitlen and granddaughter Hunter Maitlen with his great granddaughter, Arlowe.
Daughter Whitney Brown and husband Bradley Brown, with granddaughters Elliot and Piper, of San Marcos, California.
Daughter Nikki Hall and husband Cade, with three grandsons, Bracxton, Gavon, and Trenton, of Ruidoso, New Mexico.
Daughter Taylor Morrill, of San Angelo, Texas.
His sister Kathleen Higgins and her husband Kent of Fairview, Utah.
His brother Ed Morrill and his wife Kim of Hobbs, New Mexico.
He is preceded in death by his sister, Gwen Morrill.
