Betty Jo Boyer Webb graduated to heaven on Saturday, February 21, 2015 ending a long battle with Alzheimer's. She was born on March 14, 1925 in Meade Kansas along with her twin sister. She grew up on her parent's farm and was never afraid of hard work. She understood what it meant to serve the Lord from a young age and was always involved in church and more often than not played piano for church services wherever she attended. She met Elmer (Jeff) Webb in May of 1946 in Meade where he was working for the Kansas Highway Engineering Department. She was quite smitten right away and it wasn't long until she and her twin sister had a double wedding on September 15, 1946. The newlyweds settled in Garden City, Kansas and soon started their family. Edward Eugene, Mark Allen and Barbara Jo kept Betty busy. Elmer gave Betty the greatest birthday present when he gave his life to the Lord and was baptized at the First Christian Church in Garden City on March 25, 1951. Elmer was able to get a job with Northern Natural Gas with the help of Betty's uncle and their lives really changed for the better. Elmer thought it would be advantageous to transfer with the company to Hobbs, New Mexico in 1954. It was hard for Betty to be so far away from her family, but she kept in touch with them by writing lots and lots of letters. Tragedy struck her family when her brother's family and a cousin's family were all killed in a car wreck in August of 1954. Family was important to Betty and the loss of her brother was something she never wanted forgotten.
Life went on for the young family in Hobbs, New Mexico where Betty's love for the Lord continued to shine. The young family became active at the First Christian Church in Hobbs and made many great friends over the years. In 1960 the family was completed when Gail Wayne was born. The family of 6 enjoyed camping and they even sold campers for a short time. During some of the long trips, the family would visit cemeteries so that Betty could follow her other love, genealogy. Family was important to Betty and she was proud of her family and Elmer's family as well. She spent countless hours tracing the lineage of the family back and she loved to tell you all the tidbits she had found. She was a founding member of the local genealogy society and a proud member of the DAR. Maybe it was because Elmer served in World War II or maybe it was the generation she was raised in, but there was no doubt that Betty was a proud American and she did not take her citizenship lightly. She worked elections as a volunteer and was a proud Republican.
Betty's world changed in 1970 when Elmer suffered from a cerebral hemorrhage and spent about 6 weeks in the hospital in Lubbock, Texas. He recovered from this, but other health issues kicked in and he took early medical retirement in 1975. Betty cared for him while trying to work to support the family and still raise Gail who was a freshman in high school. She worked various jobs around town including working at the Gold Bond Stamp Redemption Store, Dr. Smith & Dr. Tucker's dental office and at Highland Junior High. In 1978, Elmer went to heaven and Betty did what Betty always did, she led her family through grief by example. She continued with her genealogy and she even published a children's book. In 2006, Betty moved to Las Cruces to be closer to Barbara as her illness progressed. She spent the last several years of her life in a nursing home there. She was a strong woman, with a strong Christian work ethic and all of her children and grandchildren were influenced by her steadfast faith. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Reva Boyer, her brother Boyd Boyer, her husband Elmer Webb, and her sons Edward and Mark and a great grandson, Connor Dunn. She is survived by her daughter Barbara McDonald and her husband Dennis, her son Gail Webb and his wife Vicki, two daughter in laws, Sandy Webb and Cindy Webb and 11 grandchildren, Lisa Danko, Tonya Ashford, Tiffany Stevens , Marsha Campbell, Theresa Akin, Douglas Webb, Chad Aguilar, Denise Aguilar, Eclyn Aguilar, Benton Webb and Alicia Webb, 21 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.
Elmer and Betty both loved the Guadalupe Christian Camp and spent many tireless hours working on the grounds or driving kids up the mountain to attend the camp. All you had to do was mention camp to Betty and her eyes lit up.
