Betty Jean Russell entered eternal rest on October 24, 2014, just shy of her 86th birthday. She was born on October 30, 1928 in Midland, Texas to Oma and William H. St. John. The family later relocated to Roswell, NM where Betty grew up and graduated high school. Betty met and married the love of her life, Allen M. Russell, Jr., on November 9, 1947. They settled in Lovington, NM. After Allens death, Betty and children moved to Hobbs, NM her home for fortyfour years.
While living in Hobbs, Betty worked for Ruthco, Inc. and Lea Regional Hospital, retiring in 1996. She attended Holy Trinity Episcopal Church. Her life was not always easy, but she persevered with good humor and a smile.
Survivors include her three children, daughters Elizabeth Williamson and Polly Quinn Capps, all of Hobbs, son George Mia Russell of Oklahoma City. seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren six nieces and nephews and numerous great and great, great nieces and nephews. She is also survived by longtime friend Mary Lou Sterling Talley of Midland, and her little sweet dog Cleo.
She was preceded in death by her husband Allen, her parents, two brothers and their wives.
Cremation has taken place and graveside services will be held at a later date. Services are under the direction of Chapel of Hope Funeral Home, Hobbs, NM. www.chapelofhopefunerals.com.
Although Betty will be greatly missed, the family is comforted by the fact she has reunited with her beloved Allen and other loved ones. We will so miss you Mama, but now your mind is clear and you walk the streets of gold.
