Betty J. McCauley passed away on July 4, 2014 in Hobbs, New Mexico. She was born November 20, 1924 in Kansas City, Missouri. She was born premature, underweight, at home, with little chance of surviving. God had a purpose for her. During WWII she worked as a riveter building B52 bomber planes. Betty married Clifton McCauley on February 9, 1945 in Kansas City, Kansas, and remained devoted to him until her death even though Clifton passed away November 2, 1985.
Betty and Clifton owned and farmed in Smithville, Missouri until they relocated to Lea County. In Hobbs they owned and operated several gas stations at the state line, notably a Phillips 66, Chevron, and Exxon station. Betty and Clifton worked side by side each day at the stations. Betty still took care of her children and grandchildren, who were a source of great joy for her, of whom she was very passionate. She was a hard worker and great homestyle cook. Betty was selfless, and seldom met a stranger. She loved gospel music and the songs of Elvis Presley.
Betty leaves behind to cherish her memories her two daughters, Karla Coleman and husband Lewis of T or C, New Mexico, and Sharon Wise and husband Pat of Lovington, New Mexico five grandchildren: Shannon Thompson, and wife Tabby of Hobbs, New Mexico, Sonya Penner, and husband Jeff of T or C, New Mexico, Cayla Teague, and husband Mike of Hobbs, New Mexico, Regina Reber, and husband David of Hobbs, New Mexico, and Jacqulyn Miller, and husband Mike of Hobbs, New Mexico, fifteen great grandchildren: Shandi, Savannah and Connor Thompson, Shanea and Rey Hall, Jared, Zach, Derek and Nick Reber, Hayley and Steven Teague, Ryan, Brette, Josh and Addison Miller, and two greatgreat grandchildren: Kaylee and Farrah Franklin.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband Clifton McCauley, mother Opal Armstrong, father Frank Hrock, and grandson Clifton Ray Thompson.
Visitation will be held at Chapel of Hope Monday, July 7, 2014 from 2 6 p.m., and from 8 a.m. 2 p.m. on Tuesday, July 8, 2014. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at Chapel of Hope, officiated by Pastor Elio Barrios.
