A memorial service for Betty Banta, 72, of Hobbs will be held 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 29, 2009, at Chapel of Hope. Cremation will take place at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel of Hope Funeral Home.brBetty died December 25, 2009, at Nor-Lea Hospital in Lovington. She was born July 16, 1937, in Hobbs. She married Claude R. Banta on November 22, 1955, in Hobbs. He preceded her in death on December 19, 1976.brbrBetty was born to Walter and Ruth Spurlock. She was a 1955 graduate of Hobbs High School. She married Claude R. Banta on November 22, 1955, in Hobbs. Together, they started Banta Oilfield Service and operated the business until his death December 19, 1976. Betty was employed for 20 years at Hobbs Public Library. She was a loving and caring mother, grandmother and friend to many.brbrSurvivors include two sons, Jackie Banta and wife Ericka of Denver City, Texas, and Jerry Banta and wife Lisa of Edmond, Oklahoma; four grandsons Ethan Banta of Edmond, Oklahoma, Jake, Mason and Luke Benson of Denver City, Texas; one granddaughter Bethany Banta of Midland Texas; a brother Jackie Spurlock of Andrews, Texas; nephews, Shawn Wilson, Josh Wilson and Quinn Spurlock; and a longtime childhood friend, Patsy Cunningham of Lovington, and many other longtime friends.brbrBetty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a brother, Jerry Spurlock.brMemorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, New Mexico and El Paso Chapter, 3411 Candelaria NE, Suite M, Albuquerque, New Mexico 87107.
