Berniece Battles

September 13, 1930 — November 29, 2016

Berniece Mason Battles, born on September 13, 1930 went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on November 29, 2016. Berniece was one of 11 children born to Elbert and Eula Moore in Atwood, Oklahoma. All of her siblings have preceded her in death except for her brother, Joe Moore, and two sisters, Betty Wehunt and Louise Scott.

Berniece married the love of her life, Jessie Mason, on February 22, 1946 in Wilburton, Oklahoma and they had six children. Berniece lost her husband to death on December 11, 1987 and later remarried Clint Battles of McAlester, Oklahoma. She is survived by sons Howard Mason and Gene Mason of Hobbs, New Mexico, Jerry Mason of Houston, Texas, and daughters, Rita Tyler of Boerne, Texas and Janice Shepherd of Livingston, Texas. She was preceded in death by Clint Battles and daughter, Carrol Kennedy.

She has 14 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and 18 great-great grandchildren whom she loved fiercely.

Berniece enjoyed raising her children and the friends they brought home. She showed her love by cooking and feeding anyone who came to visit. She loved canning and taught many of her grandchildren to can. Her embroidery decorates tea towels in our kitchens and pillowcases on our beds. Her love of bedspreads and curtains is legendary second only to her love of watching the Atlanta Braves with her boys
