Benny Starr McCann passed peacefully from this life on September 20, 2020. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, September 24, at 2:00 at Prairie Haven Memorial Park Cemetery where he will be buried beside his two sons, John and Benjamin. Benny was born in Drumright, Oklahoma on January 21, 1930, to Benjamin and Maggie Stowe McCann as one of eight children. He was a veteran of the Korean War era, serving as a SEABEE in the United States Naval Construction Battalions. After being discharged in 1954 from the Navy, he returned to Hobbs where he married and raised four children. He worked in the oilfield, then returned to construction, working for Hobbs Lumber and Supply for many years in the 60s and 70s before he became an independent contractor as Mac’s Quality Home Repair. He was preceded in death by two sons, John and Benjamin. Benny is survived by his companion of many years, Magi Cates as well as his son, David McCann (Diana) and his daughter, Cheryle Estala (Frank) in addition to his grandchildren Lindsay Huckabee Powell, Nathan Huckabee, Sara Estala, David Lee McCann, Robin McCann, Michael McCann, Starla McCann, Steven McCann, and Justin McCann. He is also survived by eleven great-grandchildren.
