Benny Hoyl of Hobbs, NM passed away on Nov. 30, 2014 at the age of 73 after a short battle with cancer. Benny was born on Feb. 26, 1941 in Clovis, NM. He loved sports and was a star athlete during high school in football, basketball, and track and field for the Tatum Coyotes, setting several school and state records.
Benny met Linda in 1970, and they were married the following year. For the next 43 years, he would frequently tell friends and family that Linda was the love of his life and, the best thing that ever happened to me.
Benny worked at Permian Ford for more than 40 years, and he loved his job. Many of his customers became his friends, and he was a car salesman extraordinaire because he treated customers like friends and family.
He was an avid outdoorsman and loved fishing, hunting, and motorcycle riding with his group of friends, The Wild Bunch. He was a big Dallas Cowboys fan and loved attending Hobbs Eagles games and cheering them on. He loved having friends and family over for a good oldfashioned fish fry. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend, and he was wellloved by all who knew him.
Benny is survived by his wife Linda Hoyl, three daughters, Misty Funk and husband Kenny, Gregi Reed and husband Mike, Shalisa Heath and husband Mike, one son Brian McNerlin and wife Melanie, two brothers, Bobby and wife Darla, and Mickey and wife Jane, six granddaughters, Taylor Funk, Sharray Rodriquez, Stephanie Willig, Rachel Willig, Ashley Winchester, and Shauna Barriga, one grandson, Greg Heath, 7 greatgrandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Benny was preceded in death by his mother and father Gladys and Ray Hoyl, his eldest daughter Andrea Sherfick, his brother Leonard Hoyl, and his fatherinlaw Virgil Rieathbaum Papa.
