With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Anita Acosta on February 2, 2025. She passed peacefully, surrounded by her family. Anita grew up in Plains, Texas, and lived a life full of compassion, kindness, and generosity. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Carlos Lujan Acosta, her parents, Remigio and Louisa Barbosa as well as siblings Robert Barbosa, Remigio (Raymond) Barbosa Jr., and Rosa Castillo.
Anita had a deep love for education, spending a significant amount of time working for the Hobbs Independent School District in numerous roles. She always cherished the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of students and colleagues alike.
Eventually, she left her career in education to support her husband, Carlos, as their business, C & A Meter Co., began to flourish. Although she preferred to remain behind the scenes, Anita was the heartbeat of the business, the unsung hero whose quiet strength and unwavering dedication were instrumental to its success. Her sharp mind and tireless work ethic kept the company running smoothly, all while she balanced the demands of home and family. Her contributions were immense, though she never sought recognition—her reward was in seeing the fruits of their labor and the security it provided for those she loved.
She was a devoted mother to her children, Carlos Acosta of Hobbs and Amanda Acosta of Lubbock, and a loving grandmother to her two grandsons, Noah Garcia and Jonah Acosta-Frausto, who brought endless joy to her life.
Anita had a deep love for gardening, cooking, and seasonal decorating. Her home was a reflection of her creative spirit—each season bringing new colors and warmth that she carefully curated. She took great pride in her garden, nurturing it with the same love she gave her family, and her cooking was always at the heart of family gatherings, filled with laughter and love.
Anita’s positive energy and genuine love for others were felt by everyone who crossed her path. She had an incredible ability to make people feel seen and valued, and her joyful spirit uplifted those around her. Her kindness, strength, and devotion to her family and friends will never be forgotten.
In addition to her children and grandchildren, Anita is survived by her siblings, Linda Bernal of Lubbock, Texas; Ida Sanchez and her husband Juan of San Antonio, Texas; Norma Barbosa of Lubbock, Texas; Zaragoza Barbosa and his wife Carol of Round Rock, Texas; Benjamin Barbosa and his wife Olivia of Lubbock, Texas; Fernando Barbosa and his wife Dianne of Pflugerville, Texas; and Ramiro Barbosa of Lubbock, Texas. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, who she cherished deeply. Being an aunt was one of her greatest joys, and her love for her extended family was boundless.
While she will be deeply missed, her legacy of love, kindness, and strength will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.
