Alvin Wilks

Funeral services for Alvin Ray Wilks of Baird, Texas, forshy;merly of Hobbs, New Mexico, will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Sepember, 13, 2008, at Chapel of Hope Funeral Home with the Rev. Keith Hawkins officiating. Burial will follow at Prairie Haven Cemetery. Visitation is 2-7 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. until service time Saturday at Chapel of Hope.

Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel of Hope Funeral Home.

Mr. Wilks, 61, died September 10, 2008, at his home in Baird, Texas. He was born February 17, 1947, in Gilbert, Louisiana. He marshy;ried Doris Tollett on November 28, 1992.

Alvin was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He enjoyed fishing with his family and friends. He was self-employed for 11 years as a contract pumper with Wilks Pumping Service. He worked in many capacities in the oilshy;field in and around Hobbs for over 30 years. He served his country in the U.S. Army durshy;ing the Vietnam War. He was a faithful member of the United Pentecostal Church and attended the Country Gospel Church of Moran, Texas. He especially enjoyed spending time with his wife, children and 10 grandchildren. Alvin loved his Lord Jesus Christ and has gone on to his final reward.

Survivors include his loving wife, Doris Wilks of Baird, Texas; a son, Alvin Joe Wilks of Hobbs, New Mexico; a daughshy;ter, Laura Alice Disney of Portales, New Mexico, a daughter, Valarie Beeman of Hobbs, New Mexico; a son, Nolan Giesecke of Albany, Texas; a brother, Henry Wilks of Wisner, Louisiana; a brother, Harold Buddy Wilks of Wisner, Louisiana; a sister, Mary Stephens of Wisner, Louisiana; brother Rufus Wilks of Hobbs, New Mexico; a brother, Julian Wilks of Ranye, Louisiana; a sister, Josie King of Wisner, Louisiana; a brother, Bill Wilks of Jena, Louisiana; and numershy;ous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.

Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Laura Bell Wilks; his first wife, Alice Wilks on August 5, 1992; and two brothers, Jerry and Douglas Wilks.
