Alta Newman

A funeral service for Alta Geneva Newman of Hobbs will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 12, 2009, at Jefferson Street Church of Christ.

Clay Martin will officiate. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday from 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. at Chapel of Hope Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.

Newman, 83, died Wednesday, December 9, 2009, at Lea Regional Medical Center. She was born June 6, 1926, in Enid, Oklahoma. She married William Slim Newman on February 16, 1942, in Portales, New Mexico. They were married for 67 years.

Mrs. Newman was a loving mother of six children, 11 grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. Together she and her husband owned the Stateline Barbershop where they worked until retiring. She was a member of Jefferson Street Church of Christ.

Survivors include the husband of the home; three sons, Stan of Newman of Hobbs, Don Newman of Grand Prairie, Texas, and Carl Newman of Hobbs; three daughters, Pat Fore of Chowchilla, California, Carolyn Horton of Boiling Springs, South Carolina, and Virginia Boynton of Hobbs.
