Alfred Hughes Rogers "Sonny" reunited with his wife on October 4, 2018 after a fulfilling 94 years with us. He was born on October 26, 1923 to O.A. and Pearl (Rudy) Rogers in Post, TX. On July 29, 1970 he married the love of his life D. Ann Thompson.
Sonny served in the U.S. Navy on board the USS Colbert (APA-145) as a Fireman 1st Class in WWII. He was a skilled craftsman and his stucco work can still be seen throughout SE New Mexico.
Papa Sonny dearly loved all of his grandkids. Each will tell you he had a special love for them alone, from Niece to Noop to Charlie Brown. A few will even argue that they are his favorite! He was an honest and loving man. He taught us that blood isn't what makes you family, it's the relationship you build. His legacy carries on in the lessons he taught to many generations; to be honest, work hard and be self-reliant. Every grandchild worked for him either bailing hay, branding cattle or on a construction site, and for many all three.
Sonny was preceded in death by his parents, wife, children; Sandy DeMoore, Joe Parker and Johnny Parker and 5 sisters and 4 brothers. He leaves his legacy and love with his daughters Gina Oakes (Houston, TX), Jean Ables (Hobbs) and Sheila Parker (Hobbs), 15 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
