Aaron L. Williams, Sr.

Mr. Aaron Lay Williams Sr. departed this life on October 22, 2024. A protector, a hero, and the epitome of strength, he leaves behind a legacy that will forever be cherished by all who were privileged to know him. He was affectionately known as “Bubba” to his family and close friends.  

Born on July 10, 1934, in Yoakum, TX, to Aaron Len Williams and Frances Beatrice Rice Williams, Aaron was the second child, growing up alongside his older sister, Annie Lee. In 1942, his family moved to Hobbs, NM, where he attended Booker T. Washington High School. There, Aaron excelled both academically and athletically, playing football and basketball. His love for sports was undeniable, and he went on to play football at Paul Quinn University in Waco, TX. His passion for athletics extended throughout his life. In addition to playing sports, he dedicated many years to coaching, leaving a lasting positive impact on countless young athletes. After retirement, he continued his love for sports by playing golf, enjoying the game well into his later years. 

After attending Paul Quinn University, Aaron returned to Hobbs, NM, where he began a long and successful career with Texaco, working diligently until his retirement. He was also a faithful member of Lane Chapel CME Church, where he served in various roles and was always willing to step in as needed. His dedication to his church and community was unwavering.  

He married his high school sweetheart, Alice Ruth Johnson, with whom he shared a deep bond built on love and family values. Together, they raised four children: Sherrill Williams of Studio City, CA; Roderick Williams (deceased 2013); Norma Williams Curry (deceased 2015); and Aaron “Bo” Williams Jr. of Hobbs, NM.  

Aaron’s role as a loving father and grandfather was central to his life. He is survived by six grandchildren: Eric Dion Williams (wife Yolanda), N’Yet Shaw, Aaron Williams III, Christine Templeton (husband Chris), Kimbal Williams, and Jacee Marsh. His memory is also cherished by three great-grandsons: Eric Williams II, Ethan Williams, and David Collins. Beyond his immediate family, he was a guiding force to special sons and daughters, including Kelly O’Neal, Karen O’Neal, Lemuel Curry, and Nedra Chew, as well as beloved nieces and nephew Carolynn Shed, Nolan Shed, Courtnè Alexander, brother-in-law, Raymond (wife Clemmie) Johnson.  

Aaron was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Alice, his son Roderick, his daughter Norma, his sister Annie Lee Holmes, and his brothers-in-law Lenwood Holmes and Eric Reece Johnson. 

Known for his quiet strength and humble wisdom, Mr. Williams was a pillar of his family and community. His love and dedication to his family, and his unwavering work ethic will be remembered and celebrated for generations. Though his physical presence will be deeply missed, his spirit lives on in the hearts of those he touched.

 The family invites all who knew and loved Mr. Aaron Lay Williams, Sr. to join in a celebration of his life. 

This man of strength was not only a provider and protector but a role model for what it means to lead with both courage and compassion. Whether he was offering a word of encouragement, a helping hand, or a firm shoulder to lean on, his presence was a constant source of support for those around him. His strength was never boastful but always evident, a pillar upon which his family and community could rely. 

Though his physical presence is no longer with us, the spirit of Aaron Lay Williams, Sr., will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His 90 years of life was a testament to strength, perseverance, and an unwavering commitment to family - a legacy that will endure for all time. 

Rest in power, Mr. Aaron Lay Williams, Sr. You will be forever missed but never forgotten.
